An acclaimed Filipino and American journalist, Maria Ressa is the co-founder of _Rappler_, a news site known for exposing government abuses—including extrajudicial killings under former president Rodrigo Duterte. For her work, she has faced relentless pressure from the Filipino government, multiple arrests, and ongoing legal battles. Earlier in her career, she spent nearly two decades reporting for CNN in Southeast Asia, including as the network’s lead investigative reporter in the region.
