## Chapô
**How is racial inequality built ? In [_Death by Design_](https://www.sciencespo.fr/cris/fr/evenements/death-by-design-producing-racial-health-inequality-in-the-shadow-of-the-capitol/), sociologist Sanyu Mojola, professor at Princeton University and currently visiting scholar at Sciences Po (CRIS), challenges the idea that racial health inequalities are merely accidental. Drawing on historical archives, statistical data, and interviews, she reveals how these disparities are the product of deliberate political, urban, and institutional choices, particularly in Washington, D.C. From the city’s founding to its recent transformations, her work traces the long-term persistence of health inequities. She kindly agreed to answer our questions.**
